Jennifer uses performance, sculpture, and writing to critique how pre-existing narratives control us. She is interested in ideas of belonging, which she wrote about in 'Field Notes:Two', a publication by 'Two Destination Language'. Other publications include Seven Sentences by Seven Horses, published by New Critique. In 2019 Jennifer performed her work Under my Skirt at Liverpool Hope Streets On the Verge Festival, 2017, and at Perth Fringe Festival, Australia. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2022 with an MA in Contemporary Art Practice in 2022, Jennifer’s work has become increasingly rooted in her writing practice. Her work is excessively playful, rejecting established conventions.
I explore our place in society, often, through the creation and layering of fictitious characters. My work encourages questions and conversations around power, ownership, stereotypes, and femininity. My performance and video work aims to be as critical as it is silly and playful.
I have planted my feet firm into the unquestionable normality that comes with the ownership of this fleshy container – I am Julien. In my wake, I leave a flourishment of fantastical and dainty footprints that step in unison with the fluttering of my lashes and flick of my sharpened manicure leading no further than the very tip of their filed points. Prominence and adornment have little distance to cover before I let them devour my long pink lines of lust.
