The film centres on 10 year old Wadjda – spotting a beautiful green bicycle for sale, she wants to buy it but her mother forbids it afraid of repercussions in a society where a bicycle could be seen as compromising a young girl’s virtue. A positive view of one girl’s determination to be different and to realise her dreams.

July 2014 – We screened 3 short films we created in partnership with Achieve Northwest

Signal worked in partnership with Achieve Northwest to create informative short film clips complimented by 3 short dramatised films, based on real life stories designed to raise awareness about the issues faced by ex-offenders seeking employment and the impact on the wider community. The films feature local actors and actresses from Barrow.

This will be an introduction to the project and how you can get involved and includes a screening of Signal’s award winning short documentary, The German Who Came to Tea, made as part of a Heritage Lottery funded project which shares the story of local resident Annie Day who at 100 years old recalls how 70 years ago, her young son brought a German prisoner of war home for Christmas dinner – marking the start of an enduring lesson in love, loss and acceptance. On Valentine’s Day (14^th February 2014) at Cooke’s Studios (104 Abbey Road, Barrow in Furness) DARE DANCE will be celebrating ‘LOVE’ with a screening of our first ever dance film. ‘A Love Calendar ‘ is a journey through Love over …a year… a lifetime…

This dance film (approx 15 mins) is a first time collaboration between Creator and Director Amanda Mortlock, Performer Manuela Benini, Film-maker and Editor Daniel Williams with an original sound score by Andrew Deakin.

The film will be screened at 12.30 & 2. 30 & 4.30 & 5.30 for an audience of thirty people per showing and we will also announce a suite of Love Projects for residents of Barrow in Furness.
